Shlomo Wiesel was the father of famed author and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel. Shlomo was born in Sighet, Romania in 1903. He worked as a grocery store owner and was well-respected in the Jewish community of Sighet.
During World War II, Shlomo, Elie, and the rest of their family were deported to Auschwitz concentration camp where Shlomo tragically perished in the gas chambers. Elie's experiences with his father in the concentration camps deeply influenced his writing and advocacy work later in life.
Elie Wiesel's memoir "Night" is a poignant and powerful account of the Holocaust, including his relationship with his father. The bond between Elie and Shlomo is a central theme in the book, as Elie grapples with the challenges and horrors of the Holocaust while trying to protect and care for his father.
Shlomo Wiesel's memory lives on through his son's writings and advocacy work, as well as through the collective memory of the Holocaust. His story serves as a reminder of the millions of lives lost during one of the darkest periods in human history.
